Still don’t get why Brantley is listed as a platoon guy. This was done on this site last year erroneously. Brantley is an everyday player in Cleveland. Raburn is the guy that will be platooned.

Also, Santana is not going to be the catcher. Tribe has already said Gomes will be the starter. Santana will be the DH, but may also get some looks at 3B.

    • Made some adjustments to the lineup to get Gomes in there as the starting catcher, although that pushes Raburn out and I think he is deserving of an everyday shot. He kills LHP but also did well against RHP’s last season (.805 OPS, 9 HR in 136 AB). With he and Stubbs on the roster, I think they’ll both play vs LHP. So who sits? Murphy and, in my opinion, Brantley. He isn’t good against LHP’s. But with so many options and moving parts in this lineup, it might not be a straight platoon. He won’t sit against every LHP. A lot of guys will get days off here and there. But if they had to put out a lineup against a LHP today, I don’t know if Brantley would be in there. Tough “go-to” lineup to project but I always appreciate the feedback.

Brantley was better than Bourn against lefties…and righties last year. Brantley’s OBP was .325 against lefties last year…higher than Bourn’s overall OBP.

Brantley had over 600 PAs last year and was one of the best hitters the Tribe had with men on base. Again, he is not going to be platooned at all. He will start 140+ games again if healthy. Other than injury, only way he’s not an everyday starter in Cleveland is if he is traded.

If the season started today we would probably see:

    1. Bourn – CF (everyday…sadly)
    2. Swisher – 1B
    3. Kipnis – 2B (should hit leadoff)
    4. Santana – DH
    5. Brantley – LF (everyday)
    6. Cabrera – SS
    7. Gomes – C
    8. Murphy/Raburn – RF
    9. Chisenhall/Aviles – 3B

Stubbs is the one that is being pushed to the bench. Wouldn’t mind him platooning some with Bourn…or if they could just trade Bourn…

Indians have pretty much said Raburn and Murphy will be in RF and that Stubbs is currently the odd man out. Not saying Stubbs shouldn’t platoon with Brantley (or Bourn), just telling you it’s not happening…just like Brantley was not being platooned last year. Tribe likes his presence in the lineup too much. And he’s not that bad against lefties that you have to take him out.

Realize it’s not easy coming up with these for all 30 teams though. Overall pretty solid.

One thing that could throw a wrinkle in the Tribe lineup some….Carlos Santana is playing some 3B in winter ball. He may be platooning some with Chisenhall at 3B next year (probably only if Cabrera is dealt and Aviles is the starting SS).

    Roster is at 38.
