They announced that Werth would hit in the middle of the lineup (presumably fifth), so wouldn't that make Harper bat 2nd?

Could you send me a link? Haven't seen that. The middle of the lineup needs a lefty, in my opinion, without LaRoche there. Better balance that way. I also think Harper could hit 3rd or 4th.

Dan Haren is their 4 starter... that is scary

Just wondering why werth would not be in the #2 spot, just because of the on-base percentage was through the ceiling. And I just think that Span-werth-harper-zimmerman-laroche-desmond-espinosa-suzuki/ramos works better.

Read this quote a few weeks backs:

"I think his skill set profiles as a middle-of-the-lineup type of hitter," Rizzo said, "You're a much better team when you have a good leadoff man and Jayson driving in runs in the five-hole or six-hole or wherever it might be for the team."

I've been holding off on the change with Harper in the #5 spot so they would have a lefty in the middle of the lineup. Now that LaRoche is back, giving them a lefty in the middle of the lineup, I moved Harper back up and Werth to the 5 spot.

I'm sure they're still discussing all the different options. Just my opinion of the week, mostly based on R-L balance and their feeling on Werth.

Don't you think if the season were to start today, the Nats would have Morse platoon against lefties with Harper or LaRoche? Probably not Span cause he hits well against lefties. Just an idea, I can't really see Morse being a bench player.

Not a straight platoon anywhere but he'd likely be in the lineup vs LHP. They could rotation sitting LaRoche, Harper, and Span. Still plenty of AB's to go around. I really don't think Morse will be there Opening Day, though.

I don't think Zach Walters saw time in the show last year...?

I think Mike Costanzo is in Nationals camp? At the very least I'm pretty sure he's part of the organization now.

Yes. Got him here on the transaction page ... http://www.mlbdepthcharts.com/2012/03/washington-nationals-2012-13-offseason.html

I'm only adding those that get invites to big league camp, though.
