holy crap
You'd think that would spell doom for Wilson once the deal is official.
It wouldn't surprise me. He's out of options and the only way he's making the team is if they trade Arencibia or Buck and d'Arnaud isn't ready for the majors at the start of 2013. Because a trade might not happen right away, they might want to hold onto Wilson longer just in case. Somebody has to go from the 40-man, though, and he might be the most likely to go.
MLB teams have to set 40 man rosters soon for the rule V draft - and tender/non-tender arb eligible players.
Ahh much improved. Love the trade and the melky signing. I like Maicer at 2nd, and feel like somebody out there will give us good value for Bonifacio in a trade. I really want another lefty reliever though...
Yes Jason I wanted to mention... Anthopoulos has indicated that it's Izturis who has the inside track for the second base job.
I know he said this after Izturis signed and Aviles was still in the picture. Has he said it since the trade? Bonifacio brings so much more to the table, in my opinion. And Izturis has never been a full-time player.
With Happ's arbitration picked up is he a trade chip, or is he a reliever with Dickey coming in or are Romero and company battling it out?
Assuming Dickey is in, he's still an important piece to the roster puzzle as rotation depth and possibly the primary lefty out of the 'pen if Oliver retires. I do like a few other lefties, like Aaron Loup, but Happ is out of options and is probably the next best starter if one of their top 5 gets hurt so I doubt he goes anywhere.
Jason,
I don't see any reason for Cooper to be on this club opening day. I think you'll see them go with 2 outfielders on the bench (since their DH can also play 1B). Lind is probably gone after this season and Cooper will need the regular daily playing time in AAA this year in order to make a contribution in Lind's place next season.
I'd replace Cooper with Sierra on your depth chart.
I think that last spot on the bench can go in a lot of different directions, basically because they don't really need it. Having versatile players that don't need many days off would allow that. Maybe they go with 8 relievers to start the year. If I'm adding an extra bench guy, I could go with a second right-handed hitting OF (Davis and Sierra) or a pretty solid left-handed pinch-hitter (Cooper).
Their team is way better than last year
From everything I hear from the sportscast here in Canada, Izturis will be the starting 2B and Bonifacio will be on the bench.
Thanks benji. I'm copying and pasting this comment answering the same question earlier:

I might just be being stubborn but I think it Bonifacio ends up playing more at 2B.
Nickeas will be on the roster before Blanco. The idea of bringing in both Thole AND Nickeas is two have 2 catchers on the roster who handle Dickey well in the past
AA already said it was Blanco's job to lose with the expectation that Thole starts in Triple-A. Nickeas is on a minor league deal. Serves as minor league depth for now and another guy who has caught Dickey's knuckleball.
Luis Perez is out of options, you have to think they'd start him on the dl rather than risk losing him. Have you heard an injury update?
any scenarios where Bautista gets at least a game at 1B?
