I saw Francisco Martinez play a lot of CF recently how much chance does he have playing OF in MLB?

That makes sense. He seems to have some speed. Blocked at 3B by Seager. Plus, his value as a 3B dropped greatly after last year (.610 OPS in AA) so they might as well see if he can play CF.

Just wondering why you would put Morse as DH and not at first. With the bad Legs of Morales and Morse an above average first baseman.

They actually have 4 DH's. I will change Morse to 1B, though. He doesn't want to DH and Morales is pretty slow out there.

I have a hard time seeing Smoak making this club over Wells at this point. Morales/Morse will play 1B/DH or vice versa, Ibanez in LF, so they need a strong defensive outfielder on the bench not another 1Bman. Smoak is destined for AAA if this is their opening day roster. They can't simply decide to go from day one with that many DH's/1Bman on their roster.

I'm as confused as anyone. But they reportedly expect Smoak to win that 1B job.

Too bad Cavan Cohoes got hurt last year... He is the fastest player in the organization.. and probably in baseball.. ran the 60 in 6.17 seconds!! I cant wait to see him running down balls in CF this year!

Anonymous said... January 28, 2013 at 12:46 PM

You are RIGHT! Cohoes can FLY! I saw him play in a one game last year and he was even faster than darren ford...

Yes, no idea why I didn't have him on the list. My bad.

I really like Ramirez as the #4 starter. He should have solid stats and if he gets some runs behind him this year, he could win 10-11 games.

Jason - MLBDepthCharts.com said... February 8, 2013 at 9:28 PM

Yup. Could be a sleeper.

Prospect Jack Marder is no longer going to catch, FYI. Concussion issues and his versatility/speed leading them to move him around 2B/LF

Jason,

Is there anyway that you see Nick Franklin making the squad? He isn't hitting for average in ST but has a HR and two doubles. He finished at AAA and should be knocking at the door.

Jason - MLBDepthCharts.com said... March 10, 2013 at 9:53 AM

Not really. Blocked by Brendan Ryan and Dustin Ackley. Not a great fit at SS, anyways. Trade might be best way to get him to majors.

I don't see your line up being the most effective one possible. Michael Saunders is clearly on the upswing, with Gutierrez going the other way. Also, Seager is not nearly as valuable a hitter as others and should be considered a lower in the order guy. My best guess would be Ackley, Saunders, Morales, Morse, Smoak, Montero, Seager, Gutierrez, Ryan. Just my opinion, as I understand the logic behind your proposed line up, but I also do not think Morales will be platooned as they are going to heavily rely on his bat to solidify the line up.
Thanks for your consideration.

It doesn't seem like Ackley will hit in the leadoff spot on Opening Day. Wedge has mentioned something like that and he hasn't been in the leadoff spot for over a week now.

I think he'll probably bat 7th or 8th at the start of the season, and in my opinion, it would be good for him, because of his struggles last year. As a leadoff hitter for Opening Day I believe Guti would be the best option.
