They need to acquire a young "big time" middle of the order hitter such as Mark Trumbo and get a starting pitcher who is legit such as Greinke or Haren or Peavy and a guy such as Suan Marcum or Brandon Mccarthy.cashner will move to the bullpen and so would stults. Anthony Bass and Dale Thayer would be sent to triple A or perhaps traded in a deal to get a guy such like the ones above.
Jason, your boys need to trade Chase.
I'll tell you exactly what is going to happen. They're gonna wait him out for a half-season. If he keeps up what he did in the second half of 2012, there's no way they can afford to keep him. His trade value will be as high as it will ever be and they'll trade him by the trade deadline, assuming they're not in the pennant race.
If he has more of a typical Headley pre-2012 2nd half season, his price could go down and they could have a chance to sign him by the 2013-14 offseason. If the price doesn't go down, then they trade him before the start of the 2014 season.
I hear Gyorko has basically passed Forsythe as the starting second baseman, but you do not even have Gyorko making the team. I am in a very deep NL only keeper league and someone is trying to push Forsythe on me, so I was curious on your thoughts.
Way too early to say who is in the lead. Remember that the Padres are a small market team and will try to save $$$ however possible. If Gyorko stays in the minors until sometime in June, his arbitration is pushed back a year and the Padres end up saving millions over the course of his six+ years of team control. In other words, he needs to beat out Forsythe in convincing fashion to make this team.
