It seems like out of the four main guys in the outfield, whomever is not in the OF on a given day (probably Cespedes most frequently since he is worst defensively) would DH. I imagine if Smith sticks with the club, he will just be used to spell people.
Chris Carter has stone feet, can't play defense and doesn't even use his legs when mashes the ever-living daylights out of the ball. He should be the DH for all 162 games, he's the best hitter they have outside of maybe Cespedes.
Smith should not be on this team: not great with the glove, average bat. No way no how should he ever be blocking a true 40+ HR talent like Carter at DH.
1B: Moss/Barton
2B: Sizemore/Weeks
SS: Nakajima
3B: Donaldson
C: Norris/Kottaras
LF: Cespedes
CF: Crisp/Young
RF: Reddick
DH: Carter
Should be the squad as many games as health permits.
is Jaso good enough against LHP to play full time?
Any word on Dallas Braden?
Not at all. He's not expected back until mid-2013. I imagine some team could take a chance with a minor league deal.
Do you think Sizemore will stick at 2B or will they give Weeks another shot?
I think they'll have a pretty fair competition in camp. However, if Sizemore is out of options like I think he is, Weeks will have to outplay him by a wide margin.
I cannot imagine Lowrie would not start.
There's no way of noting it here with this current setup, but I do expect Lowrie to play regularly but between four different positions. At least that's what the A's are saying the plan is. If Donaldson, Nakajima, or Sizemore/Weeks struggle, I imagine he'll settle into one spot eventually. I have playing time projections done at Baseball Prospectus (subscribers only), so once those are posted in the near future, it would paint a better picture.
What's the story on Antonio Lamas, where is he likely to play at this year, AAA? Could he be in the majors at sometime?
Any news on Jed Lowrie starting every day?
Per SF Chronicle, Nakajima may start the year in AAA. http://blog.sfgate.com/athletics/2013/03/25/dont-be-surprised-to-see-as-shortstop-hiro-nakajima-open-season-with-triple-a-sacramento/ Some combo of Lowrie, Sizemore, Rosales, Sogard up the middle.......that leaves 3B to Donaldson
