I know the Tigers are conservative, but on paper, I'd rather place Jackson after the slow home run sluggers, where the team can better take advantage of his speed. I'd also want to break up the righties and lefties better. A batting order of Hunter, Fielder, Cabrera, Martinez, Jackson, Dirks, Peralta, Avila, and Infante would work perfectly.

Why is Smyly listed as a reliever?

Mistake. Thanks for pointing it out!

Love the site. Will be interesting to see how the Tigs roster plays out. I agree that Porcello will probably be the 5th starter over Smyly.

Below fell out of favor last year once Darin Downs was called up and didn't even get a token September call up.

Also, Rondon is the mega wild card. I assume that if he's even remotely mediocre in spring training they'll start him in Toledo and let Coke or Dotel close.

I think Smyly is going to be really good. But Porcello makes $5M+. Hard to keep him in the minors with that salary. And I don't know if they're very comfortable trading him with little depth behind Smyly that they can count on in case of injury. It's good for a contender to be 6, 7, or even 8-deep in starting pitching depth.

Rondon on the Opening Day roster as the closer is a ton of pressure for a rookie. I like the idea of easing him with a closer-by-committee early on. Ideally, Rondon can get some innings in AAA, get eased into the majors, and then take over as the closer no later than late June, early July.

casey Crosby and Drew Smiley for Felix Deaubront?

Anonymous said... March 20, 2013 at 10:29 AM

"Deaubront" is not as good as "Smiley", why would we make that trade?

Just posted today. Kobernus is headed back to Washington as a Rule 5 returnee.
