Bruce will play CF and Choo in RF due to Bruce's having more expriance in center in the majors than Choo.

For now, he's going to Spring Training as the CF and the Reds will evaluate him there. But a lot of people do think that's what will end up happening. We'll see.

I can guarantee that reliever JJ Hoover is making this team out of ST. And as of this last update Didi Gregorius is gone.

Jason - MLBDepthCharts.com said... December 22, 2012 at 7:12 AM

Not even Dusty Baker would guarantee that. I know Hoover has a chance and he deserves it. But I also know that 6 of the 7 guys I have projected are either out of options or have guaranteed contracts. And they're all good pitchers. The one guy I'm not sure about is Ondrusek. He might have an option left. My guess is the final spot comes down to Ondrusek and Hoover. Both could make it if Masset isn't fully recovered from his injury. Also keep in mind that Baker has mentioned the possibility of starting Chapman in the bullpen and moving him to the rotation later in the season.

Also, Gregorius isn't listed anywhere on this page since the trade. Am I missing something?

Jason,

With a surplus of relievers, the Reds will likely move very slow with Masset (shoulder surgery 3 months ago). There is a strong chance of starting the year on the disabled list.

Thanks for the heads-up. Last I had heard, he was planning on being ready for Spring Training. But the latest update I can find from a few weeks ago says he's hoping to be throwing off the mound by the start of Spring Training. Based on that, he's definitely a long-shot to be ready for the season, in my opinion. What a player 'hopes' usually doesn't equate to what actually happens in regards to an injury.

With Ludwick's injury history would the Reds be more likely to have Frazier go to LF with Hannahan 3B or Heisey go to LF?

Jason - MLBDepthCharts.com said... December 26, 2012 at 9:49 PM

You mean if Ludwick got hurt? I'd guess he'd probably split time between 3B and LF and Heisey/Hannahan both getting time. Don't think either should be playing regularly.

Why is every internet site so down on Broxton? His velo is down a little but he did have a pretty solid year in 2012 didn't he so why so glum, chums??

Jonathan Broxton

22 innings, 2.82 ERA, 20 HITS, 3 BB, 20 K's

John Fay

Masset has been throwing from 90 feet three days a week.

“It’s going pretty good,” he said.

“I’ve had some small setbacks.”

The next step for Masset is to get on a program where he throws every day. As far as throwing off the mound? “That’s a long ways away,” he said. “I’m trying to build arm strength, so I can recover correctly and get to throwing every day.”

BROXTON.... not flashy but a solid closer!

Any chance Billy Hamilton brakes onto the MLB scene anytime soon?

Jason - MLBDepthCharts.com said... March 3, 2013 at 8:53 PM

Highly doubtful. Would probably take a long-term injury to one of the OF's, and even then they still might prefer to let him work on his game in AAA for a few months.

CHAPMAN - He should be tried as a starter, the #5 starter. Let him be skipped a few times in April when he can be skipped thus keeping his innings down. In May and June he should be limited to 5 innings or 5.1 innings and then be allowed to go 6 innings max the remainder of the year. Skip a start around the All Star break which will hopefully keep him to 27 starts and 150 innings in the regular season. BTW - Broxton will be just fine as closer. He's steady-Eddie in that role.

Hamilton will make it to the majors this year with choo out their its going to kill our offensive numbers, cozart will have to play so time at the top of the order.

Alfredo Simon will begin the year on the DL.
