Granted he started today, but do you find it odd that Towers is using Nieves as a pinch-hitter late in games recently? I thought the back-up catcher was supposed to be left available in-case of injury, unless the Diamondbacks have some emergency 3rd catcher I'm completely unaware of?
Maybe I've just become accustomed to the Blanco-type back-up because I remember now having Montero being the primary Pinch-hitter on the 07-08 D'backs preceding his inception of being the full-time starter.
It's a bit risky but I'm sure they'd feel comfortable enough sticking someone like McDonald or Elmore back there if something were to happen to Montero. I'm assuming one of them is the emergency catcher.
