Relievers on the Rise - May 31, 2011
by Jason Martinez
No 'Reliever Roundup' for the next month but you still get 'Relievers on the Rise' every Tuesday. Two former closers, who are 'back on the rise' after losing some steam in the last year, top the list.
RELIEVERS ON THE RISE
Jim Johnson, RHP - Baltimore Orioles: The 27 year-old, who had a 2.23 ERA and 19 holds for the O's in 2008 and 10 saves and 14 holds in 2009, is rebounding nicely after missing most of last season with an elbow injury.

Knocking Down the Door (Pitchers) - May 30, 2011
by Jason Martinez
*Players who may be on the verge of a big league call-up are considered to be 'Knocking Down the Door'.
Kyle Gibson, RHP - Triple-A Rochester (MIN): There are many weeks where it's tough to find pitchers who are 'knocking down the door'. This week was no exception. Well, except for Gibson. That was a no-brainer after his last outing, when he took a perfect game into the 7th inning.

by Jason Martinez
*Players who may be on the verge of a big league call-up are considered to be 'Knocking Down the Door'.
Brett Lawrie, 3B - Triple-A Las Vegas (TOR): You know I'm serious when a player makes this list in back-to-back weeks. While this could've easily been the case with Dustin Ackley, who should be in Seattle within the next two weeks, it's getting more and more difficult to think that Lawrie won't be a major leaguer by the time this feature runs again next Monday.

We're just over a month away from the full release of 'MLBDepthCharts Magazine' (click HERE for more info). In the meantime, I am releasing a free preview of just a few of the features that will be included for anyone who subscribes to the 'free trial'. We've gone over 100 subscribers for the 'Daily Roster Report' and today's report included part of what will eventually be our 'Weekly Prospect Report'.
FANTASY PERSPECTIVE: Triple-A Jailbreak
by Warren 'Dan' Bogard
We’re full bore into prospect call-up season. Fantasy commissioners nearly had to call out the waiver wire riot police in competitive leagues for the Eric Hosmer call-up (53% owned*), and we’re just getting started.

Relievers on the Rise - May 24, 2011
by Jason Martinez
Another busy day of roster moves kept me from getting to this feature until now. And a good thing it did because it allowed me to confirm what I already suspected. That the first pitcher on this list is a legit late-inning option despite making the jump from Double-A just a few hours ago.

Reliever Roundup - May 24, 2011
by Jason Martinez
It's time to recognize a job well done by new Diamondbacks GM Kevin Towers. Faced with the task of improving one of the worst bullpens in all of baseball last season, three of Towers' offseason acquisitions have helped lead the team to a 2.96 ERA, good for 5th best in the NL.

Yuniesky Betancourt, SS (MIL): While Betancourt can show off an occasional flash of brilliance, the 29 year-old is one of the most inconsistent players in the game. He hit .259 with 16 HRs and 78 RBIs last season for Kansas City, which is pretty darn good despite his .288 OBP.

FANTASY PERSPECTIVE: Roughed Up and Under Valued
by Warren 'Dan' Bogard
Sometimes pitchers start slowly, and their value is punished long into the season. In 2009, Justin Verlander started 5 games in April, and he got shelled. He then proceeded to be one of the most dominant pitchers in all of baseball from May-October, finishing third in American League Cy Young voting.

*Players who may be on the verge of a big league call-up are considered to be 'Knocking Down the Door'.
Jose Ceda, RHP - Triple-A New Orleans (FLA): The Marlins bullpen has been very good but if they feel they could use another power arm, Ceda appears to be ready. The 24 year-old is throwing more strikes than ever in 2011 while posting an 0.53 ERA and holding opponents to a .155 batting average.

FANTASY PERSPECTIVE: Breaking Out and Breaking Down - Offense
by Warren 'Dan' Bogard
Every year, some players deviate significantly from their historical production in standard 5x5 categories. These players often turn into the value picks or busts of the year for fantasy purposes. Let’s take a look at some of the top-of-category offensive movers and shakers so far in early 2011.

Site Update
by Jason Martinez
Blogger.com was down for nearly 24 hours so I apologize for the site not being updated during that time. It is once again available, however, I have lost all work from some of Tuesday and all of Wednesday. Instead of waiting for it to be restored, which may or may not happen, I am back-tracking and getting all the team pages updates as quickly as possible.
Twitter has also been giving me problems this morning. I've been getting an 'over capacity' error whenever I try to use it. Hoping things get better as the day goes on. Thanks for your patience.

Relievers on the Rise - May 10, 2011
by Jason Martinez
Earlier in today's 'Reliever Roundup', I discussed some teams that might be interested in Padres closer Heath Bell if he became available on the trade market. Closers aren't normally shopped around without a reliable option behind them on the depth chart. Here are some 'Relievers on the Rise' that are in the process of trying to elevate themselves to that level.

Reliever Roundup - May 10, 2011
by Jason Martinez
In this week's 'Reliever Roundup', I'll be taking a look around the league at a few bullpens that could target an established closer between now and the trade deadline. These established closers that might be available, however, don't grow on trees. At this point, the only obvious one is Padres All-Star Heath Bell.
