Introducing DraftStreet: The Future of Fantasy Sports

Less than a year old, DraftStreet.com is quickly becoming a Fantasy Sports player’s dream.

No more spending hours on end every day managing and following your season long team only to have it ruined by a major injury - or waiting months to get paid out if you win. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week you can log on to DraftStreet.com and create teams for daily and/or weekly fantasy matchups.

DraftStreet offers numerous types of leagues for most major sports. The most popular game is the MLB Salary Cap league where DraftStreet sets prices based on projected fantasy value each day and your mission is to find the bargains and make the best team possible within the budget.

They offer free leagues for practice and reward points toward merchandise, but the real allure is that you can compete against anywhere from one person in a head to head matchup, or 100’s of people in a Guaranteed Prize Pool League (GPP) for hundreds of dollars in cash every night.

There is no obligation to play every single day, so the time commitment is completely controlled by you, as is the money commitment. You can enter free leagues, $2, 5$, $11, $22, $55 leagues, or if you get on a hot streak – enter the big money $109, or $215 leagues and bring home some real cash – every single night.

Possibly the most intriguing thing about DraftStreet.com is that "fantasy sports" is not considered gambling under US law, but is specifically singled out as a "skill game." DraftStreet is based in the US and every contest offered on DraftStreet.com is 100% legal in the United States. If you win, you’ll be paid out directly into your DraftStreet account after the completion of every fantasy matchup and you can use paypal to withdraw, or request a check, or put your winnings back into more competitions to win more money on DraftStreet.

MLBDepthCharts recently sponsored a free tournament for $200 cash, with the top 5 places getting paid. We had a great turnout!

Response to In-Season Content Suggestions

posted 3/31/11 1:09 PM PST
by Jason Martinez

Last week I asked readers to send me suggestions for in-season content as I'm looking to adding to our weekly features, which already includes 'Knocking Down the Door' on Mondays, 'Under the Radar' on Wednesdays, and 'Prospect Talk' on Fridays. Below are a few of the suggestions I've received followed by my responses. Some of the reader suggestions have been edited by me. I'll post a few each day until I cover them all.

Los Angeles Angels *Roster is set barring injury or last-minute transactions

With Joel Pineiro starting the season on the DL, the Angels are going with a four-man rotation and five-man bench. This allows them to carry Hank Conger as the third catcher until Pineiro is activated for his start on April 8th. Jason Bulger, Michael Kohn, and Rich Thompson won the last three bullpen spots, although one of them will be the odd man out once Scott Downs returns from a broken toe in a few weeks. Brandon Wood and Chris Pettit won spots on the bench.

Arizona Diamondbacks *Team must choose a starting 1B and LF

The team hasn't announced a starting first baseman or left fielder but the 25-man roster is set. Juan Miranda or Russell Branyan will start at first base. Xavier Nady appears to have won the starting left field job over Gerardo Parra. Kam Mickolio and Joe Paterson have won the last two bullpen spots.

Chicago White Sox *Roster is set barring injury, last-minute transactions

With Jake Peavy starting the season on the DL, the Sox are going with Phil Humber as his temporary replacement while Lastings Milledge and Brent Lillibridge have both made the Opening Day roster. They had appeared to be fighting for one job but the team is opting to go with a 5-man bench and 11-man bullpen to start the season.

Chicago Cubs *Roster is set barring injury, last-minute transactions

Andrew Cashner won the last rotation spot over Carlos Silva, who was released, and Braden Looper, who retired. The bullpen was finalized with Marcos Mateo and James Russell claiming the final two spots. The bench will include Koyie Hill, who held off Welington Castillo for the backup catcher job, and Reed Johnson, who beat out Fernando Perez for the remaining spot.

Baltimore Orioles *Roster is set barring injury, last-minute transactions

The 25-man roster was finalized this morning with Robert Andino claiming the final bench spot over catcher Craig Tatum while Brad Bergesen and Chris Tillman made the team over Zach Britton. It's no surprise that Britton is heading to the minors. The team can push back his arbitration and free agency a year by keeping him there for a few weeks. But don't be surprised to see him before the month is over. He was easily the best pitcher in Orioles camp this spring.

I've officially fallen too far behind to get you completely caught up on all of the latest roster projection changes in one post. So I'm gonna take this on one division at a time and give you a quick review of where each team currently stands and an update of what has happened over the past few days or so. Let's take a look at the five teams in the NL East.

One thing that's been established over the past few months is that MLBDepthCharts.com has become a fairly popular website during the offseason, especially in March. I'm very grateful to everyone out there who has spread the word. But I also want to let everyone know that we do offer plenty of great content during the season, as well.

Prospect Talk: Locking it Up

posted 3/25/11 11:34 AM PST
by Jeff Moore

We’re getting to that time of the year when most of the long-shot prospects have been sent away from camp and we have a clearer picture of who is going to make the Opening Day roster.

Some players appear locks to have a spot to themselves. Below are a list of players who have already made their team’s 25-man roster, or appear to be a virtual lock to do so:

Players Who Are Injured ...

by Jason Martinez

... are now indicated with this symbol + on the team pages. I've only added this feature on the projected major league roster pages. It will be added to the minor league pages in the near future.

While it's obvious that a player on the disabled list (currently the 'projected DL') is injured, some players on the 25-man roster (currently the 'projected 25-man roster') have injuries with an unknown severity or just less serious injuries that will keep the player out for days instead of weeks. The latest injury update can be viewed on the player page by clicking on the player's name.

Rule V Draft Tracker (2011)

PROSPECT TALK: The Good and Bad of Spring

posted 3/11/11 7:17 AM PST
by Jeff Moore

Spring Training is in full effect, to the point where teams are beginning to make cuts. That means we’ve seen enough baseball to pass judgment on prospects we’ve seen so far. (Isn’t baseball a cruel world?)

THE GOOD
Lonnie Chisenhall, 3B (CLE): If the Indians really wanted to take their best twenty-five north with them, the 22 year-old Chisenhall would be they’re starting third baseman. He’s hitting .524 this spring with two doubles, a triple and a two home runs.

In case you missed anything over the past two weeks, here is a list of roster transactions over that time.

Notable Spring Performances by Pitchers

posted 3/6/11 6:07 PM PST

I named some position players who were off to good starts yesterday. Today, let's take a look at some pitchers. I won't be mentioning established pitchers who are locks to make a roster. These notable performances are by pitchers that are fighting for a spot on the 25-man roster.

LHP Bobby Cramer, OAK: 7 IP, ER, 4 H, 2 BB, K - The 31 year-old is a long shot to be the #5 starter but he's doing everything in his power to stay in the competition.

Notable Spring Performances by Position Players

by Jason Martinez

I won't be mentioning established players who are locks to make a roster. These notable performances are by players that are fighting for starting jobs or, in some cases, a spot on the 25-man roster.

IF/OF Ryan Roberts, ARI: 10-for-14; 2 2B, 3 RBI, 7 BB - The 30 year-old is making quite an impression, reaching base in 17 of 21 ABs this spring. The bench looks crowded with veterans Russell Branyan, Geoff Blum, and Willie Bloomquist but Roberts is making a case early in camp.

Since most of you play Fantasy Baseball, I figured some relevant links from the past week might be helpful as you prepare for the upcoming season. Here you go:

RotoProfessor.com poses the question: Kinsler or Uggla?
RotoExperts.com wonders if Justin Morneau is a better gamble than Kendry Morales.
RotoAutority.com lists the 20 pitchers who have thrown the most pitches over that past two seasons.
RotoSynthesis shows how a really bad fantasy team in a keeper league can learn from the mistakes of the real-life Pirates and Royals.

PROSPECT TALK: Prospects Fighting For Roster Spots

posted 3/4/11  10:25 AM PST
by Jeff Moore

As the spring unfolds and position battles take shape, we begin to see which prospects in various camps around the major leagues actually have a chance to make a big league roster. Forget the Freddie Freeman’s and Jeremy Hellickson’s of the world – we know they’re making their teams. And forget about the Bryce Harper’s and Mike Trout’s – they’re in camp, but they won’t be in the majors in April.
