*MLBDepthCharts.com considers any player not on a team's 40-man roster, in AAA, or ranked as a top 10 prospect by Baseball America or top 11 prospect by Baseball Prospectus before the 2010 season as an 'under the radar' player.

Under the Radar Minor League NL Hitting Performance of the Week
RHP David Buchanan, Lo-A Lakewood (PHI)

season stats: 4-1, 1.77 ERA, 40.2 IP, 32 H, 6 BB, 25 K in 6 starts
May 4-May 10: 1-0, 9 IP, 6 H, ER, 0 BB, 7 K in 1 start

What better gift to get on your birthday than being named the “Under the Radar Pitcher of the Week' on MLBDC. As you read this, Buchanan will be turning 22 years old and coming off of the best game in his young career. He threw a complete game six-hitter on May 7th, surrendering a lone run for his 4th win of the season. Scouts have said that Buchanan has a “big arm” but control has always been his downfall. Lack of control hasn’t been an issue so far this season, as Buchanan has a 6.25 K/BB ratio and has issued more than one walk just once in six starts. He's also tossed two 7-inning outings of shutout ball and has yet to allow a home run on the season.

With Buchanan's control problems behind him, he may not be under the radar much longer. The 6’3” right-hander throws a 4-seam fastball in the low 90’s and tops out at 94 and a two-seamer that he uses as his “out” pitch. His breaking ball is a plus pitch, but he needs to improve his change-up and slider. Buchanan may advance more quickly as a reliever but with a solid three-pitch mix, there's a chance he remains a starter. Happy Birthday David.

Relief Pitcher of the Week
RHP Logan Bawcom, Lo-A Great Lakes (LAD): 2-0, 3.38 ERA, 16.0 IP, 13 H, 9 BB, 22 K, 1 save in 9 appearances; 1-0, 5 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 9 K, 1 save in 3 appearances
