*MLBDepthCharts.com considers any player not on a team's 40-man roster, in AAA, or ranked as a top 10 prospect by Baseball America or top 11 prospect by Baseball Prospectus before the 2010 season as an 'under the radar' player.

Under the Radar Minor League NL Pitching Performance of the Week
RHP Cameron Selik, Lo-A Hagerstown (WAS)

season stats: 1-0, 0.00 ERA, 15 IP, 0 R, 9 H, 3 BB, 20 K in 3 starts

Harper and Selik sounds like an accounting firm, but instead of entering numbers in the ledger books, these 2010 draft picks will be racking up numbers in the South Atlantic League stat books. Everybody knows Bryce Harper, but it’s been Selik who’s been robbing some of the hype from the much younger outfielder during the first part of the season. The 22nd round choice from the University of Kansas made his first career starts as a pro pitcher and has been impressive thus far. Selik had the honors of getting the start in the season opener on April 7th and threw 5 scoreless innings, striking out four and walking none in the no-decision. He picked up a win on April 13th by again tossing 5 innings of shutout ball with five strikeouts and two walks. The 23 year-old right-hander continued to open eyes on April 18th in throwing 5 more scoreless frames and whiffing a career high 11 batters.

Ironically, Selik was the childhood catcher to a future pitching phemon, Stephen Strasburg, who is working his way back to the Nationals rotation from Tommy John surgery. He became a Jayhawk by way of the junior college route, where he was a back-up catcher turned relief pitcher. The fundamentally sound pitcher throws a decent low 90’s fastball that has touched 95, a slider with a nasty break, and an average change-up. Conditioning may be of a concern for Selik if he wishes to remain in a rotation, as his size and fastball may be destined for a return as a reliever. Don’t expect Selik to remain in Hagerstown much longer, however, as he soon maybe joining 2011 MLBDC breakout candidate Trevor Holder in the Hi-A Potomac rotation.

Relief Pitching Performance of the Week
RHP Shawn Tolleson, Lo-A Great Lakes (LAD): 0-0, 0.00 ERA, 4.1 IP, 0 R, 3 H, 2 BB, 12 K, 5 Sv
