Is Medlen going to have a rotation spot if he returns after Hanson?

Medlen's not due back until late August. Considering the uncertainty with how well a pitcher does after returning from TJ surgery, I wouldn't count on him starting right away. Will probably pitch out of the 'pen and possibly start again in 2012.

He'll have a hard time cracking the rotation even in '12.

He's really "built" more as a reliever, and has had better success out of the 'pen. I think he's started his last game for the Braves, except maybe a spot start if needed.

The starting pitching depth they have also allows for them to keep him in a relief role.

Braves announced today they are shutting Medlen down for 6 weeks.
