Josh Collmenter has a crazy delivery! Do you think Collmenter will have a chance to start any time this year?

Jason - MLBDepthCharts.com said... April 20, 2011 at 8:09 PM

I think he's next in line right now so he could be one injury away from getting a shot. Or if the team is out of it later in the season, I'm sure they're curious to see how he would do if given a handful of starts.

i saw that miley came of the DL (he started today) also robby hammock is playing for Reno now

When Mora comes off the Bereavement List, do you think Burroughs or Wilson will be removed from the active roster? I personally think it will be Wilson since, at the moment, Burroughs is the only left-handed hitter on the D'Backs bench. Also, how many starts do you think Owings will have to make until Duke comes off the DL?

Jason - MLBDepthCharts.com said... May 22, 2011 at 10:59 AM

Especially now that Branyan has been released, Burroughs will probably stay. Plus, Burroughs is a great story and he has the Towers connection. Bloomquist can back up at SS so they're also covered there. Wilson is probably DFA'd when Mora returns. I think Owings will make one more start before Duke is ready.

I think Pena deserves a spot on the roster, even if his numbers are inflated from playing in Reno. Although Nady can back up first base, Pena seems like the better option off the bench. In addition, do you think Goldschmidt will be called up before the end of this year?

Jason - MLBDepthCharts.com said... May 22, 2011 at 11:12 AM

No on Goldschmidt. Outside shot if Miranda were to get hurt. I'd love to see Peña get a chance and I think he will eventually. Barring injury, not sure how that's gonna happen just yet.

Ryan said... May 22, 2011 at 11:26 AM

Are there any other prospects that could be called up at any point this year? (Someone like Cowgill, Roemer, etc.)

Jason - MLBDepthCharts.com said... May 22, 2011 at 11:49 AM

I'd guess Roemer next time they have a rotation opening. Jarrod Parker has been inconsistent, as expected, since he's coming back from TJ surgery but he's someone that could get a look late in the season and be in the rotation for good in 2012.

Still thinking no on Goldschmidt? How about Cowgill?

Jason - MLBDepthCharts.com said... June 13, 2011 at 10:15 AM

No need to jump Goldschmidt two levels when there isn't a dire need at the major league level. Miranda has an .813 OPS. Maybe Cowgill although I don't know if he'd get regular playing time over Parra. Having a breakout season, though.

I was looking at the probable pitchers for the Tigers-Dbacks series and it says that they are going Duke-Collmenter-Saunders. Has the rotation changed?

Jason - MLBDepthCharts.com said... June 24, 2011 at 3:01 PM

Don't have the rotation set in any particular order once the season starts. I will, eventually, but for now they change too often because of DL stints or because a pitcher was pushed back an extra day.

Ryan said... July 1, 2011 at 3:36 PM

I don't understand why Towers didn't just release Mora when he called up Pena, instead of sending Burroughs outright to Reno. Other than the defensive flexibility, Mora didn't produce anymore the Burroughs; and Burroughs was our only left-handed batter off the bench

Jason - MLBDepthCharts.com said... July 2, 2011 at 9:15 AM

Probably hesitated because of Mora's salary, which they'll still have to pay.

Do you think Burroughs will be DFA'd again when Blum returns in a couple of weeks? I think he's really the only option.

Jason - MLBDepthCharts.com said... July 3, 2011 at 8:37 AM

A lot can happen between now and then but if I'd guess that would be the case if the situation is similar when Blum is ready. He cleared waivers before, so I'd imagine he'd clear again so it's probably not a big deal for the D-Backs.

HEILMAN RELEASED!!!!

Jason - MLBDepthCharts.com said... July 19, 2011 at 10:19 AM

Still no official word from D-Backs. Not sure if he was released or designated for assignment. Same result in the end, but if he's DFA'd it could take 10 days for him to officially be released.

Ryan said... July 20, 2011 at 8:38 PM

Who is the external/internal option most likely to replace Drew?

Jason - MLBDepthCharts.com said... July 20, 2011 at 9:13 PM

Willie Bloomquist. Maybe Cody Ransom. Maybe a stopgap acquired in the next few weeks.

Ryan said... July 20, 2011 at 9:28 PM

That's what I thinking. I wouldn't want Ransom to come up, because I doubt he'd be able to translate his minor league success to the big leagues. As for a stopgap, I don't think there are any real options that would be an upgrade over Bloomquist.

Jason - MLBDepthCharts.com said... July 21, 2011 at 10:45 AM

Ransom is good insurance to have. The batting average won't translate but he should hit some HR's and he's an experienced veteran. I don't know how his defense is at SS. He's 35 so even if he was decent before, he may not be anymore. You're right. I don't know if they can find anyone via trade that would be much of an upgrade over Bloomquist, if at all. KT would have to be creative.

Ryan said... August 2, 2011 at 4:30 PM

Was Collmenter removed from the rotation too? I can't find any reports saying the he was removed from the rotation, and leads me to believe that Owings was the only one.

Jason - MLBDepthCharts.com said... August 2, 2011 at 4:35 PM

Just being skipped for one start so he's available out of the 'pen for the next few days or so.

Anonymous said... August 2, 2011 at 5:14 PM

Do you think Jarrod Parker or Wade Miley will be the next call-up if Towers wanted an internal option for the rotation? Parker has an ERA of 2.66 over his last ten starts (50.2 innings and 8.89 K/9). And Miley has an 3.86 ERA in 5 starts in AAA Reno, and is pitching tonight.

I was reading the earlier comments and saw that you thought Roemer might be the next call up back in the end of may, but I don't think that's true at all anymore given that he's struggled the second half.

How long until Gutierrez begins rehabbing again? Also do you think Burroughs or Ransom will be DFA'd when Blum comes off the DL?

Jason - MLBDepthCharts.com said... August 3, 2011 at 9:47 AM

I think the Marquis acquisition will make it tough to find room for anyone else. Collmenter has been good for the most part so he's a solid #5 starter.

Roemer looked like he was next in line back then when the rotation was a huge question mark but that is definitely not the case anymore. Owings is a good #6 guy to have just in case they need someone else later in the season.

Tough call on Burroughs vs Ransom. If they think Blum can still handle SS, then Ransom is probably the odd man out. If not, they might need to keep him around to back up Bloomquist.

Nothing to report on Gutierrez. He was shut down a few weeks back so I doubt he's making much progress.

Ryan said... August 14, 2011 at 2:46 PM

Marquis out with broken fibula. Do you think Miley gets called up?

Jason - MLBDepthCharts.com said... August 14, 2011 at 2:56 PM

I think so but it seems there are a few other candidates. Owings, Duke, Parker. Don't know if they'd bring up Bauer yet but I hear he is just about big league ready.

Ryan said... August 14, 2011 at 4:55 PM

I highly doubt it's Parker (10 ER in last 17.2 innings pitched). I think they'll call up Miley, since he pitched very well in his last outing, and DFA either Kroenke or Mulvey.

Ryan said... August 27, 2011 at 8:08 PM

Any word on how severe David Hernandez's injury is? And who do you think will be called up when the roster expands next week?

Jason - MLBDepthCharts.com said... August 27, 2011 at 9:52 PM

Sounds like it's just a contusion. Probably out just a few days. Roster additions would probably be Geoff Blum being activated and just about all their 40-man roster guys. Wouldn't expect any surprises.
