The summer vacation season is upon us and the boss has graciously granted Marc and I a two-week hiatus from our UTR submissions, which gives us an excellent time to reflect on the first part of the season. Also in full swing are the various rookie leagues throughout the minors and some interesting names have begun cropping up the last couple weeks. Estevez, an 18 year-old Dominican, is one pitcher that has made mention on my daily list over the last three weeks. The right-hander gets the nod this week after throwing six scoreless innings on June 25th, allowing five hits, one walk, and striking out a career high 10 batters in his first year of pro ball. The right-hander has not surrendered an earned run in 3 of his 5 starts, including a complete game shutout on June 14th (7 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 7 K). His 32 strikeouts have him ranked 6th in the DSL and he did not walk a batter until his fourth start. Information on pitch repertoire of the prospects in the DSL is scarce, but with the young Dominican’s early command of the plate, he maybe a pitcher to follow throughout the 2010 season.
