Gotta move D Rob up and move down Jobber or Wood.
Are you doing playoff rosters?
Yup. Working on them this morning.
do u hink montero cood b traded 4 a peace if they r still in the mix at the trade dedline?
Sure but only if Russell Martin and Jorge Posada are healthy and playing well. If not, he's first in line to take either spot (C or DH). Many think he's ready to make a big impact offensively in the big leagues. My guess is that they hold onto him unless they get an All-Star caliber player in the prime of their career in return.
Any chance Romulo Sanchez has a strong ST and beats out Brian Schlitter for that last spot in the pen??
Do you have any idea how many options, if any, Brian Schlitter has?
Thanks!
Sure, Sanchez has a shot. At this point, I'd say that last spot comes down to Sanchez, Schlitter, Carlyle, Turpen, and Vizcaino. Pretty even competition. If they happen to sign another starter, though, or if Pettitte comes back, Mitre would likely fill that role and none would have much of a shot to make the 25-man roster.
Schlitter has at least 2 more options. He was called up in 2010 for the first time in his career.
Vizcaino is now hurt, and I'd mention Fish for the last bullpen spot just because he's Rule 5. I actually saw someone mention Fish in a competition for the 5th spot in the rotation. That would be quite a shock.
Most likely they do add some sort of starter, J Duchs, Millwood, or Pettitte, and Mitre slides to LR as Jason said.
I'd love to see the Yankees bring back Aceves. He probably won't be really til after the season starts, but he could out preform Nova and Mitre when healthy.
what r montero chances of being opening day starter at catcher???
Zero unless Russell Martin gets hurt. My thoughts on Montero - In 2011, either a) he gets to NY because of injury to one of Martin, Jorge Posada, or Cervelli b) he gets to NY because Posada isn't producing at DH or Martin is struggling at catcher or c) he gets traded in a package for a big-time player.
If he's not traded, he'll be the starting C or DH on Opening Day 2012.
Have to believe this team adds at least one starter in the next 3 weeks (Camp opens). They can't possibly think they can compete with what they have now. Mitre made all of 3 starts last year and is a AAAA caliber player anyway. Not that there are very many good options via FA. Wandy Rodriguez would be a good acquisition IMO...have to think HOU would be primed to get some good spects back for someone who is costing them nearly 10 mill and will be gone soon.
I'm guessing it's Pettitte and then whoever is best out of Mitre, Nova, Colon as the #5. Not bad with CC, Hughes, Pettitte, Burnett. Very shaky without Pettitte, though. I'm sure he has to make a decision soon so they can possibly explore a deal for another pitcher before long if he retires.
I'm wondering why you have Schlitter as the long man. I would think any of these names has a better shot than he does: Romulo Sanchez, Mark Prior, Bartolo Colon, Neal Cotts and Andrew Brackman.
I'm not sold on Schlitter being the long reliever. I could throw anybody in that spot right now but it was more of him being on the 40-man and the others, Sanchez and Brackman, being young starters that need minor league experience and shouldn't be wasted as the long man in the big leagues. The others you mentioned need to prove they are healthy (Cotts, Prior) or just capable of pitching in the big leagues again (Colon). At this point, I would go with a Buddy Carlyle or Kei Igawa since they're veteran starters who can eat up innings. If the starters are doing their job, the long man would rarely pitch anyways.
If Pettitte comes back, though, it's going to probably be Mitre and the competition is pretty much over.
I was wondering whether you believe any of the Killer B's actaully have a legit opportunity to win the 5th slot?
Doubt it. I'd say they have a shot at the big leagues later in the season if they dominate AA or AAA for a few months. Betances and Banuelos both made just 3 AA starts last year. That's a big jump to go from there to the big leagues. And making the jump to the Yankees is not the same as making the jump to Pittsburgh or Kansas City. Lots of pressure that goes along with being a Yankee and playing in the AL East.
REDSOX for LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!
who would the yankees be offering for Francisco Liriano?
Don't think it's gonna happen before the season. Yanks want to see what they have in Nova and Freddy Garcia. If they struggle early and AJ struggles again, they could be desperate and maybe they would trade a big-time prospect. Looks very unlikely right now. Twins would definitely want Banuelos and/or Betances. The biggest problem with a NYY/MIN trade is that three of the Yankees' top prospects are catchers and the Twins won't need a catcher for about 10 years.
What source do you have for Gardner batting first?
Lots of articles out over the past week. Nothing final but they are 'tinkering' with the idea. He's been leading off a few times over the past week.
