I know that I've seen other people saying that they're going to bat Logan Morrison this low in the order, also. He was an OB machine last year...is his speed the issue against batting him higher in the order, and his gap-power the problem with batting him higher? I just have difficulty thinking I'd want to give 50 more ABs per year to Coughlan, Infante or Gaby, instead of him.
I think the best six hitters on the team are going to hit somewhere 1-6 and that's the way they're currently aligned. Infante is a good fit at #2 and Morrison has some pop so it's better to put him lower in the order where he can drive in some runs. Gaby had a very good year so I can see him in the 4 or 5 spot while Stanton would fill the other spot. That leaves Morrison at #6.
Jason,
Have you heard anything new about the 3b situation?
Dominguez may be good with the glove but he's only 21 and he's coming off a very pedestrian year at the plate in Double-A (.252/.333/.411). Wouldn't it make more sense for Coghlan to play at 3rd (with a competent Helms as backup)(Dominguez to go to New Orleans) and Cousins starting in CF (Cousins on the bench seems like a waste...he needs to be starting either in AAA or bigs). If the roster pans out like that this team will still need a LH hitting outfielder for the bench as well which would be Petersen by default (Nix and Branyan have to be looking tempting right now).
Haven't heard anything new so it sounds like they're serious about giving the job to Dominguez. They figure to generate enough offense with the top 7 spots in their order and are opting for defense at 3B. If they go to camp committed to Dominguez, they'll have to make a decision quick because Coghlan, even though he has some minor league experience at 3B, will need some time to get used to being there again if they choose to go in that direction. They could also go with Bonifacio at 3B and let Coghlan stay in CF. I think Nix would be a good fit for a few teams. He's the best available outfielder.
Morrison will bat second.
Been hitting 5 or 6 for the most part this spring and Edwin Rodriguez said that Coghlan and Infante would be his 1 and 2 hitters early in the offseason. Could change but that looks like the plan right now.
Evan Reed will likely start the year on the 60 day dl.
Thanks! Heard that too. Won't move him to this page's DL until made official.
