The DSL Cubs don't exist. They have 2 DSL teams, the DSL Cubs1 and DSL Cubs2.
It has been said that Ryne Sandberg will be the new coach (head skipper) of the Chicago Cubs.
In a poll 94 % of fans choose Ryne Sandberg to be the next coach to lead the Cubs to a World Series!
Cuuuuuuuuuuuubs
I believe Samardzija is out of minor league options. If he pitches at least semi-decent look for him to be in that bullpen in long relief.
Good call. He is out of options (I confirmed in MLB.com article) and I don't think the Cubs want to lose him after investing so much to keep him in baseball. I made the change.
Cashner will likely be the 4 starter as bruce.levine has stated in his chats Silva is not likely making the team and Wells will probably the 5.
Haven't seen anything written about Cashner having an edge on those two. Is that just Levine's opinion based on what he's seen or do you think that's just what he's hearing from sources?
Wells regressed last year but Silva pitched good and I would think he's likely to make the rotation, if healthy, as long as he pitches in spring like he did in 2010. Cashner has frontline starter potential so I'm sure he'll get a long look but I don't like to project unproven players as starters unless all the signs are pointing in that direction. Don't see it as clear-cut right now. If you read or hear something that says it is, let me know. Thanks!
Hey, it sounds like Cashner has all but locked up a rotation spot, could you make this depth chart portray this?
Send me the evidence (ie. link to reliable source) that says this is the case. Too early in camp to anoint an unproven guy as a lock, in my opinion. I think they're gonna give Wells and Silva a shot to hold on to their jobs.

Thanks! Still doesn't ensure that he's in. He'll still have to pitch well this spring. If he pitches really good in today's start, I'll probably move him into the rotation.
do you think silva will be traded, released, or kept as a long reliever?
At this rate (15 ER in 8.1 IP), wouldn't see him having any value to anyone and from what I hear about his attitude, I don't think he's gonna be going to the bullpen with a great attitude. Might be better off just releasing him, although I'll probably keep him on the projected roster for another couple of appearances.
Reed Johnson is the favorite for the back-up Outfielder spot, according to the Chicago Sun Times, and Darwin Barney is the favorite for the backup infielder spot, but you already have him.
Supposedly, the Cubs are announcing their rotation on Monday or Tuesday.
Neither Johnson or Perez are hitting much this spring. Johnson has the experience but Perez' speed off the bench would be a weapon, in my opinion. Still some time left for this one to be decided but I think it's very close.
IK, neither have been good, just passing on a report. ;)
Johnson is a lock over Perez BTW
I thought Blake Dewitt was projected over Darwin Barney.Max Ramirez is also way better than Koyie Hill in my opinion.
DeWitt had terrible spring. Will start season as utility infielder. Barney and Baker will share 2B duties. Ramirez hasn't played much because of a wrist injury. True, he's a much better hitter than Hill. But backup catchers are ideally good defensively and experienced. Ramirez is neither so I'm not sure exactly how he fits with the team long-term.
Hill will be back-up, as ESPN said sources say.
And BTW (via Muskat): "The Cubs don’t have a designated long relief pitcher but manager Mike Quade will rely on James Russell, Marcos Mateo and Jeff Samardzija for that role.
Instead of picking one as the long man, Quade says he expects Russell, Mateo and Samardzija to be able to throw 40 pitches in a game and go at least two innings. Russell and Samardzija have both started in the past. The other pitchers in the ‘pen — Kerry Wood, Sean Marshall, and John Grabow — will most likely be used for one inning or a specific situation."
Thanks for the info. Sounds right. Either one of those guys could get the call if multiple innings are needed. Will adjust projection depending on who's getting the most long relief work.
