I think Conrad is playing 2B, and Infante is playing 3B.

Thanks! I remember the switch but didn't check to see if it was for more than one game.

Troy Glaus is 1B/3B.

Thanks Jon. Got it, even though it might be for just one game that he was back at the hot corner. Wonder if anyone considers 3B an option for him going into 2011? He was only there out of necessity today.

Yeah, you're right Jason.

A lot to like in the top 5 in the lineup, the starting rotation, and back end of the bullpen.

Prado looks more like a 2 hitter going forward with Heyward, Uggla and McCann following, but that dude can flat out do anything on the field. But if Jones can stay healthy and be what he always is than this lineup has a lot more depth

The bench leaves a lot to be desired but that can change easily during a season

All indicators from the Braves beat writers is that the starting lineup will be as follows:

LF Prado
CF McLouth
3B Jones
C McCann
2B Uggla
RF Heyward
SS Gonzalez
1B Freeman

I've read Heyward hitting 6th as a possibility and I've read McLouth hitting 2nd as a possibility. I'm just waiting for McLouth to prove he isn't terrible again before I make the change. Let me know if anything is confirmed by Fredi Gonzalez.

Before the end of the season, I'm betting that Heyward takes over the #3 spot and stays there for at least the next decade.

Jason,

This is from Dave O'Brien's blog on AJC.com today.

Gonzalez would like to alternate between right- and left-handed (or switch) hitters up and down his lineup, and has mentioned this as his ideal lineup if McLouth is hitting well and Chipper is healthy: Martin Prado (R) leading off, McLouth (L) batting second, Chipper (S) third, Uggla (R) and McCann (L) fourth and fifth in either order, and Heyward (L) hitting sixth.

It’d be rounded out by Gonzalez (R) and Freeman.(L).

“In a perfect lineup, you could go right, left, switch, left, right, left, right with Gonzo hitting seventh, and Freeman hitting eight,” Fredi said. “In a perfect lineup.

Hopefully for us Braves fans, Nate performs and Chipper stays healthy. I do agree with you that eventually, Heyward will be hitting 3rd. I just hope Chipper's healthy enough and performing well enough to do it in 2011. If so, it could be a really good year.

Thanks for the info Andy. I'm definitely gonna keep close tabs on McLouth and move him into the #2 spot once he shows something. Do you think Schafer has a shot to win the job? In my opinion, the pre-injury Schafer is much better than the '10 version of McLouth. That's not saying much but Schafer could be a much better player right now. What if the pre-injury version of Schafer shows up in camp and McLouth looks as bad as he did last year?

If Schafer can truly come back and hit like he did before the wrist injury then I think that he would be the best option in CF. He gives them more speed at the top of the order and is a much better defensive OF than Nate. If he wins the job, it would not surprise me to see a lineup like this:

CF Schafer
LF Prado
3B Chipper
C McCann
2B Uggla
RF Heyward
SS Gonzalez
1B Freeman

it seems as if the braves will name beachy as their 5th starter, which means minor will begin the year in AAA

Jason - MLBDepthCharts.com said... March 23, 2011 at 11:03 AM

Thanks Mike. Been following along. Very surprising to hear that, although Dave O'Brien of the AJC said in his article that it was premature. Both have pitched well this spring but I really think having a lefty in the rotation would benefit them. Having Beachy in there would give them an all-righty rotation.

Excepting Minor, I don't the Braves have started a lhp since JoJo Reyes. It doesn't really seem to bother them.

Atlanta Journal-Constitution (via CBS) is saying that Minor gets the spot start if Jurrjens can't go. Not sure if that means Minor would get the opening day roster spot, though.
