Webb should be there only main target of the guys they would be bringing back.......Heilman would be the only other guy i would bring back out of their pitcher free agents.

Webb seems to be asking for a lot of money. If the price comes down, maybe. I doubt Heilman comes back, though. J.J. Putz is rumored to be a target for the 'pen. He could challenge Gutierrez for the closer role. Towers is also very good at finding guys on the waiver wire or guys that are low on another team's depth chart. Mujica and Webb are just two of many examples and those two gusy just netted the Padres a starting CF, Cam Maybin.

i think noberto makes the roster before hampton... just so tower's doesn't have to open up a roster spot for hampton

I read that Hampton had the lead in competition a few days ago but still a long ways to go. Pretty sure they have 1-2 players that could be removed from 40-man without being claimed so that shouldn't be an issue.

what do you think the chances are that Pena makes the opening day roster?

Still a long shot. Parra and Roberts are both having good camps so Peña's the odd man out, not being on the 40-man. I have to admit, I'd like to see what kind of damage he does in the PCL anyways. He put up huge numbers in Portland last season. I think he'll get a shot at some point with the D-Backs. Will be fun to watch. Dude has serious power.

do you think abreu will be traded?

Jason - MLBDepthCharts.com said... March 16, 2011 at 9:20 PM

I would think Abreu has some value as a bench player but I don't know if anyone views him as a starter. Lack of plate discipline hurts. Still two weeks though and injuries are very common so there's still a lot that can happen. Could see him getting traded for fringe prospect or claimed off waivers.

do you think hester will accept his assignment? also do you think rosa will clear waivers since it doesn't look like he'll make the opening day roster?

Looks like Hester already cleared waivers and was outrighted. Don't think he had an option of declining the assignment.

If Rosa doesn't make it (and there's still a chance he could), I think there's a good chance he gets through waivers. If they wait until 1-2 days before Opening Day to put him on waivers, most teams will pass because they would have already settled on their bullpen and might not want to take a chance on an unproven guy like Rosa.
