Bernadina in right you realy think ?
First story I read said that Bernadina/Maxwell would likely platoon. Then I read that Harris/Maxwell would platoon. I think it could be Jermaine Dye when it's all said and done. I'll keep a close eye and might change the projection again soon.
What about W Taveras in RF?
Washington Post's Adam Kilgore wrote that Garrett Mock has won the third spot in the rotation, and J.D. Martin, Livan Hernandez, Scott Olsen and Craig Stammen (and eventually Chien-Ming Wang) will competer for #5.
Jason,
I noticed you just added Willy Tavares to your predictions. I'd like to make a little arguement against it. Bear with me......
A.) Mike Morse can backup the corner OF positions, Bernadina can backup CF...so they don't need to add Taveras at this point.
B.) The Nationals currently have 39 players on their 40 man they will have to add Hernandez and Batista...so they'll have to drop at least 1 player already...adding Taveras would force 2 cuts.
C.) Alberto Gonzalez has played exceptionally well this spring and is out of options, if he doesn't make the club they risk losing him. Remember, this is a guy they gave 300 at bats to last season.
Hopefully that makes my point, what do you think??
Re: Tavares
The versatility of guys like Morse, Harris, and Bernadina give the Nats the option of filling the last bench spot with someone gives the team one above-average tool (i.e. exceptional defense, speed, or as a pinch-hitter)that can help them late in a close game. In Taveras' case, the guy can absolutely fly and could help defensively and as a late-inning pinch runner. Gonzalez doesn't offer much offensively either and they already have a backup infielder (Guzman) so I'm not sure why they would need another. I don't think Kennedy, Zimmerman, or Desmond are going to need a late-inning defensive replacement. Where would he fit on the team, now or in the future? I might be way off but that's what I'm thinking right now.
Jason,
What made you change your mind? You realized T-Virus is awful, didn't you... :).
Bill Ladson tweeted that Riggleman all but said that Gonzalez is on the team. Trust me, I know T-virus is awful. His value would be as a late-inning pinch runner in a close game, which would be important if the team expected to play a lot of close games.
