I don't know that joe mart can't beat out bumgarner in spring training... bumgarner has nothing left to prove in the minors and he's ace potential whereas joe mart probably tops out at #4 at best. Is there a reason that i'm missing for ranking martinez in there over mad-bum
Hey doc j. I originally had Bumgarner as the #5 starter in my original projections but changed it after reading a few quotes from Sabean. I just got the feeling they didn't want to rush him. He's 20 yrs old and has yet to pitch an inning in AAA. Let's say they go with Martinez or any other ordinary guy as the #5 to start the season and plan on sticking with that guy until the All-Star break. They can skip his turn in the rotation a handful of times and might only be needed for 8-10 starts. Bumgarner will then have a half-season of AAA under his belt and could be ready to help the Giants down the stretch. That's my thinking, anyways.
Just wanted to add my 2 cents about the lineup. All we are hearing is that Rowand hits leadoff this year and Schierholtz starts in RF and hits 7th or so. I believe that Schierholtz is out of options so he has to make the team. Fred Lewis seems like the most likely guy out of the picture in that scenario. I do agree that Bumgarner starts in AAA. Manager Bruce Bochy acknowledged Tuesday that Lewis, bothered by sore ribs in his left side, could open the season on the 15-day disabled list, since he is out of options it'll allow them some more time to decide on him.
would love to see runzler move up to rotation....hope to see him pitch soon. great player and person
