I wonder if reacquiring Scott gives them any leverage in signing his brother?!
That would be awesome. Not just because the brothers would play together, but because they are two of the better all-around bench players around. Jerry Hairston, Jr. was recently mentioned as a potential fit to fill the need of a right-handed hitter who can play CF for San Diego but now that Scott has been acquired to fill that role, I'm not sure that Jerry is still a target for the Pads. It's not out of the question as they are still in need of a backup IF who can spell Cabrera at SS and Headley at 3B and Jerry can do both. As a Padres fan, I would like to see it happen. It would be the 4th straight season that they have brothers on the ML roster.
Isn't it about time to put Stuaffer into the LR role??? Rosenthal was quoted, "that SD wasn't shopping him".
I wanted to wait for another update on Thatcher before I made the change. Sure does look like that's going to be the case though(Thatcher to DL, Stauffer to LR) unless they trade Stauff for a reliever. They don't really have any AAA relievers that pitched all that great this spring (Liz, Perdomo, Webb, etc) to fill in if they traded Stauffer.
Another question, how is this team going to make a spot for Matt Stairs?
Good question. I think they can free up a spot by placing Steve Garrison on the 60-Day DL. I don't think he's expected to pitch for a few months. Or maybe they try to sneak Perdomo, Liz, or Ramos thru waivers.
The Phillies should be calling the Padres about Stauffer.
