Jason,
Just wondering what your reason is for giving Betemit the edge over Fields. Fields is out of options, since they just traded for him you'd assume they want him and don't want to risk losing him to waivers. Though Betemit played well in winter ball he had a horrible year in AAA last year, he is a AAAA - busted prospect. Not to say he can't be useful but I see no reason why the Royals would essentialy give up on Fields without seeing him play regularly.
Bloomquist is the backup SS, Guillen the primary backup OF'er, and Fields or Betemit is the backup corner IF'er so though Betemit is more versatile it's not as if he is needed for a specific role that isn't already being filled.

Yesterday was the first day I really took a good look at the 'Out of Option' players as I was using MLBTR's list to indicate those players on the spreadsheets. Fields was the one that stood out since he could easily backup 1B and 3B, which is what Betemit would be doing. Originally, I figured Fields was a guy who still needed consistent AB's so I moved him off the projected roster. But being 'out of options', that changes everything. Thanks for the reminder. The change has been made.
Rick Ankiel has had a setback in coming back from injury. This will allow them to place him on the DL and give them more time to have Mitch Maier (who is out of options and probably wouldn't clear waivers).
