AROUND THE LEAGUE - APRIL 30, 2009

• Nationals LHP Joe Beimel is set to start a rehab assignment on Friday.
• The A's are likely to place 3B Eric Chavez on the DL on Friday and recall either IF Gregorio Petit or IF Cliff Pennington.
• The Dodgers have optioned IF Blake DeWitt to AAA and transferred 1B Doug Mientkiewicz to the 60-Day DL. RHP Cory Wade was activated from the DL and the team also purchased the contract of RHP Jeff Weaver from AAA. LHP Scott Elbert was optioned to AA earlier in the day.
• The Blue Jays have optioned RHP Bryan Bullington and LHP Brian Burres to AAA. The corresponding roster moves will likely be announced on Friday.
• The Cardinals have placed IF Brendan Ryan on the DL with a strained hamstring. IF Tyler Greene was recalled from AAA.
• Mariners RHP Roy Corcoran was placed on the DL with a strained neck. LHP Jason Vargas was recalled from AAA.
• Cubs 3B Aramis Ramirez will likely avoid the DL and might be able to play in a few days. He has been sidelined with a strained left calf.
• The White Sox have purchased the contract of OF Scott Podsednik from Triple-A. It is expected that OF Jerry Owens will be designated for assignment to clear a spot on the 25-man roster.
• Rangers OF Josh Hamilton says he's feeling better but is not expected back until at least the start of next week. He has been out since April 21st with a strained rib cage.
• The Dodgers have optioned LHP Scott Elbert to Double-A Chattanooga. The corresponding move has yet to be announced but it is likely that RHP Cory Wade will be activated from the DL.
