Dodgers sign 2B Orlando Hudson
ROSTER IMPACT: this move potentially moves as many as three starters to different positions (Blake DeWitt from 2B to 3B, Casey Blake from 3B to RF, Andre Ethier from RF to LF). Of course, Juan Pierre could also play LF with DeWitt going to the bench or AAA to start the season. The most likely scenario has the Dodgers signing Manny with Blake and Ethier staying put at their current positions and DeWitt and Pierre going to the bench. The Hudson signing also moves everyone down in the order with Hudson now the clear #2 hitter. Any guesses on the #3 hitter. I'll go with either Russell Martin or Andre Ethier.
Rays sign RHP Jason Isringhausen to a minor league deal
ROSTER IMPACT: the Rays continue to add depth to their bullpen, although the 36 year-old former all-star is coming off of surgery to repair a torn flexor tendon. With Chad Bradford out for the first few months after elbow surgery and Troy Percival coming off of back surgery, it doesn't hurt to stockpile arms that could help at some point in the season. And if Izzy can even be close to what he was a few seasons ago, the Rays are in very good shape.
Twins sign 3B Joe Crede
ROSTER IMPACT: Crede likely hits 5th or 6th in this lineup and Brendan Harris, who was penciled in to split time with Brian Buscher at 3B, could now battle Nick Punto for playing time at shortstop. The back problems should be a concern playing on the FieldTurf at the Metrodome but if healthy, the 30 year-old Crede improves the Twins on offense and defense. He has hit LHP's and RHP's equally throughout his career (.257 BA vs RHP and LHP) but was only 10-for-82 (.122 BA) with 0 HR's vs lefties in '08.
