Shouldn't Jake Westbrook be on the DL???

Here is what Eric Wedge, Tribe manager, is leaning towards as his lineup.

CF Sizemore
2B DeRosa
C Martinez
DH Hafner
SS Peralta
RF Choo
1B Garko
LF Francisco
2B Cabrera

Last year Peralta was the best cleanup hitter on the team and is expected to hit behind Hafner or even flip flop those two. Choo is supposed to hit 6th and will have a HUGE season. He's one of the best pure hitters I've seen in the last 5 years. Martinez is expected to play 1B twice a week while Shoppach will catch. Barfield and Garko are getting some OF time, too. Martines WILL BE the 3 hitter, that's a guarantee.

ROTATION
Lee
Carmona
Pavanno
Reyes
Laffey

Laffey is the front runner but has been knocked around this spring. If Laffey continues his struggles, I'd expect Sowers to get the 5th spot.

Thanks bjt68. I haven't heard much about Wedge's projected lineup this offseason so I just went with what made sense to me. I think Choo fits well in the #3 hole as a guy who can hit over .300 with 25+ HR's. I'll take your word on the lineup but are there any stories online anywhere?

I wish I had a link, but it was something I heard on the radio going to work a few weeks ago. Wedge WANTS to go back with Martinez/Hafner at the 3/4 spot as long as Hafner is healthy and producing. Wedge likes to play percentages and matchups. Choo will move up in the order against right handed pitching if Peralta is in a slump, but the interview I heard is that he likes Peralta in the 5th spot or even cleanup. The lineup will be different all season depending on matchups, that's just Wedge. Wedge has a lot of depth and will give players more days off than usual, just to keep them fresh down the stretch. If I read something about the lineup, I'll post the link.

Zach Jackson should be listed as well, he is a candidate for a rotation spot or a lefty spot in the pen. He's pitched well thus far, and I think he is out of options. John Meloan is also batteling for a spot in the pen.

Fausto Carmona will start the year on suspension, meaning they'll actually carry an extra person for at least the first week.

With Herges being a nonroster invite, I have a hard time believing he'll beat out one of the LHP's that is in the mix for the #5 SP spot that could be placed in the bullpen as a second lefty, which is what most teams prefer (2 LHP's) in the pen. Sowers, Laffey, Jackson, Lewis or even Tony Sipp (who you don't have listed); I just think 1 of those 5 would win that last bullpen spot over Herges.

Re: Herges

With all of those lefties you mentioned being fairly young, I would think the Indians would want them to continue to develop as starters in the minors rather than pitch in middle relief.

I think Herges is a good fit because he is a workhorse and has the ability to pitch multiple innings in a game.

Sipp has been a reliever in the minors the last few years but he still has just 16 games of AA experience. He could make the team with a good spring but he's thrown only 3 innings thus far.

Herges is doing everything to NOT win the job. It's ashame with all the little injuries that Adam Miller has, he's got the best stuff that I've seen in a decade. I had the privilege to watch him pitch a double A game in Akron several years ago. He was throwing 90mph sliders for first pitch strikes and bucklin' knees like nothing. Tony Sipp looks very good and it will be tough to NOT give him the spot if he keeps it up.

Chulk has pitched ten times better than Herges.
